October 4th- 5th: ICTM Conference

Greetings!  I want to share a very important event for future teachers of mathematics in Indiana.  The Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) will be bringing featured speakers from out of state as well as those from our own practices in Indiana,to a fall conference at the Sheraton Hotel at Keystone-at-the-Crossing. Indianapolis, IN.  The conference will begin on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and continue through Monday.

As you know, a curricular focus of core content is directed toward STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).  Our theme for this fall conference isPutting the “M" in StEM, Enhancing RIGOR in the K – 12 Mathematics Classroom.

I invite you to share this information with your elementary and secondary teacher candidates as we strive to strengthen and support the teaching of mathematics for our K-12 students.  I have attached a flyer to assist you in disseminating this information.  Faculty and students may register for the conference at our website:

Cancellation of IABSE Scholarship Event/Scholarship Award Announcement

We deeply regret to announce that our annual forum and scholarship reception scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2015 at Marian University, has been canceled for this year, however, one award will be presented.

Of the past five of seven forums held, the highlight has been announcing our scholarship recipients. We have heard inspiring stories from students across the state about their journeys to becoming proficient teachers. We were very disappointed when the selection committee met to review this year’s applications for our five scholarships, and we had only received one packet that was sent in a timely manner and/or contained every portion of the stipulated criteria at that time.

Based on the committee’s strong recommendation, one award, the Mary McLeod Bethune scholarship, will be sent by mail to Courtney B. Godbolt, an outstanding senior from Ball State University. Her materials met all of the criteria.
