REMINDER - NOTE NEW SESSION! IACTE Day at the Statehouse - March 3 - JOIN US!

Colleagues -

This is a gentle reminder to share your plans to join us for the fifth IACTE Day at the Statehouse on March 3rd.  We are adding a new session to the Day's events, that you are welcome to join.  At 9:30am we will meet in the Government South Building, Room A for a session led by Mike Brown of the Indiana Department of Education entitled "Civics Lesson on how an Education Bill becomes a Law." Also, we will have a Statehouse Tour Director provide interesting historical facts about the Statehouse.  We think that this addition to the Day's schedule will provide an interesting educational component for our teacher candidates.  Following this session, we will move to the Statehouse.

If you are interested in participating, please complete the following GoogleSpreadsheet by February 17th and forward any questions to Jonathan Dee at On the GoogleSpreadsheet, please feel free to add rows as needed.

The fifth annual IACTE Day at the Indiana Statehouse“Meet Indiana’s Future: Our Future Teachers” - is March 3, 2020.  All IACTE members are encouraged to join us for a day where junior and senior teacher candidates, Indiana’s future teachers, may interact with their legislators to discuss and to highlight the clinical experiences in classrooms that they have throughout their programs.  Our event will be on the south side of the Statehouse third floor. A light lunch will be served.  The entire program will run from 10:30AM until 1:30PM Eastern Time.

As an IACTE member institution, we encourage you to identify and support the travel for two-three teacher candidates and a faculty or staff representative to participate in this important event. Also we are asking that participating institutions pay a registration fee of $100 to help support the lunch that we have for the legislators and students. Attached is an “invoice” in which you can include your institution name and the fee amount.  ($100 is the minimum registration fee.  Any additional support will be appreciated.)

Please be strategic in who participates; experienced teacher candidates to speak with legislators about their field experiences and the quality of their educator preparation program.  Include teacher candidate representatives from a variety of content areas and from various legislative districts.  The candidates should have a positive disposition, a good understanding of their program, and the vital skill of focused conversation when speaking with their legislators.  As a reminder, the goal of this event is not to participate in an educational political debate, but to introduce, inform, discuss, and celebrate.  If you are interested in participating,  please complete the following GoogleSpreadsheet by February 17th and forward any questions to Jonathan Dee at On the GoogleSpreadsheet, please feel free to add rows as needed.

  • Candidates’ names and e-mail addresses
  • Candidates’ content/program areas
  • Candidates’ Indiana Legislative and Senate districts
  • Faculty/Staff names and e-mail addresses

Open receipt of your candidates who are participating, we will forward to you a sample communications that we ask that your candidates send to their local representatives, along with talking points that candidates can be prepared to share. We encourage you to participate in this exciting event.
