IACTE Day at the Statehouse - REMINDER!

IACTE Colleagues -

We are excited to have to date 10 of our member institutions planning to bring students to our second annual Day at the Statehouse.  Clearly, we would love to have more institutions and students involved in the opportunity to talk with our state legislators about the quality of teacher education in Indiana.  PLEASE consider sending to Jonathan Dee, jjdee@bsu.edu, names of students and at least one faculty representative to join us in Indianapolis.  At the end of the message are listed the institutions from whom we have students identified (Thank you!), as well as content areas in which we could use more student representatives.  The details are:

  • WHEN : Thursday, February 23, 9:30 am - 2:00 pm (Eastern Time)

(a light lunch will be provided)

  • WHERE :  South Atrium of the Indiana State House

Please send the following information to Jonathan Dee at jjdee@bsu.edu no later than Monday, February 13th.

    • Candidates’ names and e-mail addresses
    • Candidates’ content/program areas
    • Candidates’ Indiana Legislative district
    • Faculty/Staff names and e-mail addresses
  • DETAILS :

The theme for the day will be “Meet Indiana’s Future: Our Future Teachers.” Our teacher candidates, Indiana’s future teachers, have a chance to interact with their legislators. Selectedjunior and senior candidates, from our traditional teacher preparations programs will be prepared to discuss and to highlight the clinical and real world experiences that they have throughout our programs, and their great positive experiences impacting Indiana’s P-12 students.

We will want to be strategic in who participates, as we need experienced teacher candidates to speak with legislators about their field experiences and the quality of their educator preparation program.  Also, we will want to have teacher candidate representatives from a variety of content areas and from various legislative districts.

Information will be sent to those institutions attending later next week with details to share with the students, as well as a template for a message students should send to their local representatives encouraging them to visit with us on February 23rd.
