IACTE Meeting on January 27th

IACTE Colleagues –

We have a great meeting scheduled for Friday, January 27th at the Ball State Alumni Center in Muncie.  The meeting will include updates and discussions with Indiana Department of Education staff, as well as discussions with colleagues of promising practices that they have initiated in their teacher preparation programs.  Also planned for the meeting is information about the second IACTE Day at the Statehouse.  How could you miss this day with colleagues?!?

The meeting details are below.  Please advise me no later than Monday, January 23rd of your plans to attend.

  • 9:00 - 9:30: Registration and continental breakfast
  • 9:30 - 10:00: Input from Caitlin Beatson, Coordinator of Teacher Recruitment and Retention at IDOE

Caitlin will provide updates on the state’s ESSA plan.

  • 10:00 - 11:00: Input and Conversation with Pam Wright, Director of Special Education at IDOE

Pam will report on an initiative to ensure that students with disabilities in P-12 classrooms have access to grade-level standards.

  • 11:00 - 12:00: Panel on "Promising Practices" in Teacher Education

Panelists from four member institutions will share a "promising practice" from their teacher preparation program, and conversation around these topics will continue over lunch. Panelists will address the following topics: effective school/university partnerships, preparing general education teachers to effectively differentiate instruction, developing preservice teachers' knowledge of content-area literacy, integrating professional ethics into teacher preparation, and preparing candidates to work in diverse schools.

  • 12:00 - 1:15: Lunch and Roundtables: Sharing and Discussing Our Work

Panelists will lead round-table discussions during lunch that extend the topics from the 11:00 session. All members are invited to bring their own "promising practice" to share at a roundtable discussion.

  • 1:15 - 1:45: Advocacy and Day at the Statehouse

We will review some of AACTE’s materials on advocacy, and will also hear reports from last-year’s Day at the Statehouse in preparation for the same event this year.

  • 1:45 - 2:15: Input from Scott Bogan, Coordinator of Educator Preparation at IDOE

Scott will give updates on several topics: the CASA correlation study, the recently completed standards alignment study, and an update on if/how state elections have impacted the IDOE.

  • 2:15 - 2:30: Business Meeting
